Las siete capillas que Antoni Gaudí distribuyó alrededor de la cripta de la Sagrada Familia están siendo restauradas. El pasado 19 de marzo de 2016, coincidiendo con el día de San José, finalizaron los trabajos de reparación de la capilla de este mismo santo. En octubre del 2016 se restauraron los elementos artísticos de las capillas dedicadas a la Inmaculada Concepción y al Corazón de Jesucristo. Ahora ha llegado el turno del resto de capillas, que están dedicadas a los familiares de Cristo.

 

El patronato de la Sagrada Familia ha informado que los criterios de restauración han sido avalados por estudios artísticos, técnicos e históricos. Entre otras fuentes, se han utilizado publicaciones del propio Gaudí, así como entrevistas a expertos y análisis químicos.

 

Algunos de los arreglos que se llevarán a cabo contemplan la recuperación del baldaquín, la imagen, la peana, el dosel y la corona del Sagrado Corazón. El baldaquín es una pieza original de metal forjado y corona con 96 flores la estatua de Jesucristo. En el proceso de restauración de las hojas se han recuperado los colores originales, inspirados en la naturaleza: el azul y el dorado. La corona y la peana son de yeso y madera con serigrafías de oro, y también están siendo restaurados.
